Meanwhile Space is a term used to describe the temporary use of a property until it can be brought back to its full potential on a permanent basis.  Phase two of the scheme will see a number of vacant units in the Saltmarket, High Street, Duke Street and St Margarets Place areas being offered to eligible organisations for an initial £1 rent for the first year of occupation. As the vacant units are at different phases of renovation, new tenants will move in on a staggered basis, as and when properties become ready for use. Phase one of the scheme in 2019 was effective in securing tenants for 11 units in the Saltmarket and High Street areas, with all units extending their lease beyond the initial 12-month period.

The initiative, which is being managed by City Property Glasgow (Investments) LLP (CPGI) in partnership with Glasgow City Council will be open to start-up businesses, social enterprises, creative organisations, community groups and other comolimentary SMEs who can help deliver local regeneration. Interested organisations should visit our Space For Growth page for full details and criteria.

Commenting on behalf of CPGI, Richard Watson, Property and Contracts Manager, said:
We’re delighted to see the return of the Meanwhile Space scheme to Glasgow. We’ve been working hard to launch phase 2 of the scheme and have commenced renovation works to the properties to ensure they are ready for our first new tenants to move in as soon as possible.
The scheme will contribute to the growth of opportunity and prosperity for Glasgow by providing property opportunities and finding new uses for long-term vacant properties in the area, as well as driving footfall for our tenants who are already trading in this area of the city”
